Requirements

To receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students must successfully complete 30 secondary school credits. Eighteen of the 30 credits are compulsory. Twelve are elective. As well, students at Great Lakes take a Bible course each semester.

18 compulsory credits:

  • 4 English (1 credit per grade)
  • 1 French-as-a-second language
  • 3 mathematics (at least 1 in gr. 11 or 12)
  • 2 science
  • 1 Gr. 11 or 12 science or a Gr. 9-12 technology
  • 1 Canadian history
  • 1 Canadian geography
  • 1 arts
  • 1 physical and health education
  • 1 of English, third language, social science or Canadian and world studies
  • 1 civics and career studies
  • 1 of physical education, music, art, drama, dance or business/entrepreneurial

studies

In addition, students in Ontario are required to complete:

  • 12 elective credits
  • 40 hours community involvement
  • high school literacy test.

    Students normally take 4 credits per semester plus a Bible class

    Secondary School Credits

    A credit is granted for the successful completion of courses that involve a minimum of 110 hours of class work.
